It is one of his unique accomplishments that is hard to find among other medical practitioners. Dr Saikat Mallik successfully completed his training in surgical laparoscopy at the prestigious University of Strasbourg , France and was awarded Dip Lap by the university.

The University of Strasbourg (French: Université de Strasbourg, Unistra or UDS) in Strasbourg, Alsace, France, is a university in France with over 52,000 students and almost 3,300 researchers. The French university traces its history to the earlier German-language Universität Straßburg, which was founded in 1538, and was divided in the 1970s into three separate institutions: Louis Pasteur University, Marc Bloch University, and Robert Schuman University. On 1st of January 2009, the fusion of these three universities reconstituted a united University of Strasbourg. With as many as 19 Nobel laureates, and two Fields Medal winners, the university is ranked among the best in the League of European Research Universities.

Before settling at Guwahati, he also had vast experience of work in different reputed institutes in the country viz CMC VELLORE, NHRTIICS Kolkata, Delhi, NEIGRIHMS etc. He underwent training in Renal Transplant Surgery in RTIICS , KOLKATA . He was also awarded fellowship by the Association Of Surgeons Of India (FAIS) and GI surgeons of India in the discipline of surgery and endoscopy. His areas of expertise include Colo-Proctology , Cancer Surgery , Minimal access gallbladder ,Appendix , Hernia and also general surgical procedure with emergency surgery trauma . He is also experienced in vascular access A-V Fistula and home dialysis access (CAPD) in kidney failure patients.
